It is fimbriated and has an optimal growth temperature range of 35 - 42 °c. Although s. Thermophilus is closely related to other pathogenic streptococci (such as s. Pneumoniae and s. Pyogenes) it is classified as a non pathogenic and alpha hemolytic species .
